Three die as protest rock Minna

SP Wasiu Abiodun, spokesman of police in the state said that the incidents occurred on Saturday night and Sunday morning.

He said “on 3rd October 2026 at about 10.30pm, a report received indicated that a group of vigilante men mobilised to Kpakungu area to arrest some miscreants and in the process, one of the vigilante members shot one Aliyu dead, which led to some protest within the area.”

The protesters reportedly took to the streets in protest over the killing of one Aliyu by vigilante members while trying to effect arrest in the Kpagungu area of Saturday.

Abiodun said police patrol teams were mobilised to the location and normalcy was restored, while effort to arrest the vigilante member suspected of the shooting is ongoing.

According to him, some of the protesters regrouped in the early hours of Sunday, October 4, 2026, and blocked the Bida-Minna road.

‘They also moved to Gbeganu and attacked residents in the area. In the course of the attack, it was reported that two persons lost their lives.’

SP Abiodun said police tactical teams were drafted to the area, adding that “the rioters were dispersed and the road was cleared for free flow of traffic.”
