Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has ordered the establishment of a military base in communities affected by deadly bandit attacks in Bagudo Local Government Area to strengthen security and facilitate the safe return of displaced residents.
Idris announced this on Saturday during a condolence visit to the District Head of Kaoje, Mustapha Adamu, following attacks that claimed the lives of the Village Head of Lafagu and other residents.
The governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ahmed Idris, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists.
The development followed the killing and beheading of the village head by gunmen, an incident confirmed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman.
Usman said the police had arrested some suspects in connection with the attack, adding that further details would be released after investigations.
Speaking during the visit, Idris said the military base would provide a stronger security presence in the affected communities and prevent further attacks.
> “We have concluded arrangements to establish a military base in the affected communities to strengthen security and protect our people.”
The governor vowed not to relent in efforts to protect residents, saying his administration was working with security agencies to secure the return of internally displaced persons to their communities.
“I am not going to relent in ensuring that my people are protected,” Idris said.
“My government is working hard with the security agencies to ensure that the internally displaced persons return safely to their villages.”
Idris also visited camps housing residents displaced by the attacks and assured them of continued government support until they could safely return to their ancestral homes.
“I am not going to tolerate these barbaric acts. In shaa Allah, the government is doing everything possible to protect the lives of our people,” he said.
“I will continue to support you and ensure that everyone returns safely to their villages.”
The governor urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information on suspicious persons and activities.
He also warned against self-help, urging residents not to take the law into their own hands.
Idris said his administration would continue to work with security agencies to find a lasting solution to the insecurity affecting the communities.
Responding, the District Head of Kaoje, Adamu, thanked the governor for visiting the affected community and taking steps to address the security situation.
Adamu condemned the attacks as “un-Islamic and inhumane” and prayed for the governor and his entourage for standing with the affected residents during the crisis.
