President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new campus of the Nigeria Police Academy in Erinja, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State, alongside a N15 billion take-off grant to drive its development.
The approval, announced on Monday by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, aligns with provisions of the Nigeria Police Academy (Establishment) Act, 2021, which allows the institution to operate as a multi-campus university.
According to the Presidency, the intervention fund sourced from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund 2026 allocation will support key infrastructure, academic facilities, student accommodation, and core training assets at the new campus.
The decision followed recommendations from a high-level consultative meeting involving the Minister of Police Affairs, Minister of Education Tunji Alausa, officials of the Federal Ministry of Education, the Inspector-General of Police, and the National Universities Commission.
Discussions at the meeting focused on expanding student intake, ensuring sustainable funding, maintaining academic standards, and addressing the long-term manpower needs of the Nigeria Police Force, which is currently undergoing recruitment expansion.
The Presidency noted that the new campus is expected to strengthen institutional governance, enhance modern policing education, and bolster national security.
The Police Academy, which currently operates its main campus in Wudil, Kano State, will see the Ogun facility become its first satellite campus under the 2021 Act.
The move also follows calls by the House of Representatives for the decentralization of the institution across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
