President Bola Tinubu has arrived the Eagles Square, Abuja, venue of the ongoing National Convention of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
His convoy arrived the arena at about 8:15pm, with the party delegates cheering him rejoicingly.
The President’s arrival marked the formal commencement of the event, which had been on since 2pm.
Other dignitaries, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godwill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, National Chairman of the APC, Prof. Nantewa Yilwatda, governors, and other other government and party officials had arrived at the venue earlier.
Both President Tinubu and his deputy, Shettima, are being accompanied to the event by their wives.
Members of the National Working Committee (NWC) are expected to be elected at the convention, but it was not clear at the time of filing this report whether the election will be by balloting of by affirmation.
The ruling APC had earlier held successful ward, LGA, and state congresses across the country, culminating in today’s convention.
The event is expected to last till early hours of Saturday as the proceedings had just begun with the Chairman of the Convention Planning Committee and former Governor of Katsina State, Alhaji Aminu Masari, delivering his welcome address at the time of filing this report.
