Speculation was rife yesterday that the immediate past Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje may emerged as the choice of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu to replace Abdullahi Adamu as the National chairman of All Progressive Congress (APC).
Recall that Adamu resigned his position last Sunday following his fall apart with the Presidency, over the politics of the 2023 presidential election, during which Adamu had announced immediate past Senate President, Ahmed Lawan as the choice candidate of ex President Muhammadu Buhari.
It was alleged by unofficial sources that ex Governor Ganduje, who was originally slated by the President to be among his Ministers, was dropped late yesterday to enable him pick up the job of APC National chairman pending when the party will conduct mid term convention to elect and replace the vacant positions in the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
A source confided in our correspondent that Ganduje would become the acting National chairman pending when the national convention of the party will take place for his position to be ratified.
Meanwhile, some news platforms had last night claimed that a source said “President Tinubu has settled for the former Kano state governor Ganduje to replaced Senator Abdullahi Adamu as the party’s national chairman.
“The President had listed Ganduje as one of the nominees for ministerial appointment but because of his trust and confidence in the former governor, President Tinubu has to charge his mind and asked two governors (Governor Hope Uzodimma and the Kwara state governor) to persuade Ganduje into another assignment.
“Although, the President also asked him (Ganduje) to nominate another person from Kano for the ministerial job.
“I can confirmed to you that four serving governors of APC, including Imo and Kwara governors led the former governor Ganduje to a meeting with the President on Wednesday afternoon. The purpose of that meeting is for President Tinubu to brief Ganduje directly about the new assignment.”
In addition to this, it was rumoured that the spokesman of the 9th Senate, senator Ajibola Bashiru, was chosen as possible replacement for the former National Secretary of APC, Iyiola Omisore, who also resigned alongside Adamu last Sunday.
Moreover, late last night, the Governors elected on the platform of All Progressive Congress (APC), under the auspices of Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), met at the Abuja residence of Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, who is also the chairman of the Forum.
To this end, the governors at the meeting, could have also discussed the President Tinubu’s appointment of Ganduje and Bashiru as replacement for Adamu and Omisore respectively.
Though the Governors were silent on the issue of Ganduje replacing Adamu, Uzodinma, who spoke for the forum, said they deliberated on how the development in the party and also their expectations that there will be increase in FAAC allocation the States, which he expressed hope will reduce the suffering of Nigerians.
