President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will do all that it takes to address the challenges of hunger and poverty in the nation, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume has said.
Akume who made this known Tuesday at the fourth quarter meeting of Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) with the theme: “Restoration of Hope in Nigeria” held in Abuja said with their human and natural resources, Nigerians have no reason to live in penury.
Akume assured the government will not weaponize religion and ethnicity as exemplified in the appointments so far made by the President.
He said the government was laying a foundation that will put smiles on the faces of the citizens, hence why they called for a renewed hope.
His words, “I therefore call on the Nigerian citizens to trust that the incumbent administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will do all that it takes to address the challenges of hunger and poverty. “With our human and natural resources Nigerians have no reason to live in penury.
“This government will not weaponize religion and ethnicity as you can see in the appointments so far by the President. We are laying a foundation that will put smiles on the faces of the citizens. This is why we call for a renewed hope. Let us live in unity to a point that though tongue and tribe may differ, in unity we must stand”
Continuing, Akume said the government believes in consultation with all levels and societal class to achieve the development in terms of security, human development and peaceful co-existence.
He noted that transformation of any society depends on the level of the positive change of attitude of each individual from the ruling class to the grass root.
His word, “Apart from the effort of government to renew and restore the hope of the citizens, every Nigerian is a stakeholder in national development by having a change of attitude and renewed mentality” he stated.
Also speaking, Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), who was a Co-Chairman of NIREC, Alhaji Muhammad Sa ad Abubakar tasked religious leaders to always stand on the truth no matter the situation and work towards uniting the people for a better society.
He urged Nigerians to love their country and be patriotic in their approach to issues of national importance.
Also speaking, President of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Co-Chairman of NIREC, Archbishop (Dr) Daniel Okoh said good governance was key to expression of hope in Nigeria maintaining that restoration of hope will be a shared mission by all.
Executive Secretary of NIREC, Rev. Fr. Prof. Cornelius Omonokhua in his introductory remarks tasked officials to depart with the zeal to tell political leaders the need to enkindle new hope in the citizens.
