President Bola Tinubu on Monday swore in Mr. Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of State for Finance at the State House, Abuja.
The brief swearing in ceremony held in the office of the president at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Oyedele’s appointment followed a recent cabinet adjustment that saw the former Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning, her third ministerial portfolio since the inauguration of the Tinubu administration.
Until his nomination, Oyedele served as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, a body established by President Tinubu to review and overhaul Nigeria’s tax administration and fiscal policy framework.
Under his leadership, the committee developed reform proposals aimed at simplifying the tax system, improving compliance, broadening the tax base, and strengthening government revenue generation.
A native of Ikaram in the Akoko area of Ondo State, the 50-year-old economist, accountant, and public policy expert brings extensive experience in taxation, finance, and economic policy to his new role.
Oyedele began his academic journey at Yaba College of Technology, where he obtained a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance. He later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University in the United Kingdom.
He has also attended executive education programmes at several leading global institutions, including the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science in South Africa, and the Harvard Kennedy School in the United States.
Before joining government, Oyedele spent 22 years at the global professional services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). He joined the firm in 2001 and rose through the ranks to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader, advising governments and multinational organisations on tax policy and fiscal reforms.
Beyond his professional career, Oyedele is active in academia. He is a professor at Babcock University in Ogun State and also serves as a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.
