Traditional rulers seek protection for public properties in communities

Traditional Rulers in Delta State yesterday sought for the protection of public properties in various communities in the state, saying that leaders of any community found to be disrupted by vandals, or thieves would be held responsible and liable.
Urging heads of various communities to also rise up to the challenge of protecting government properties, and facilities located in their domain, the traditional rulers through communiqué issued, and signed by the state chairman of the council of Traditional Rulers, and the Obi of Owa, HRM Emmanuel Efeizormor II, a copy made available to our reporter also condemned the incessant destruction of water pipelines, stealing of power generating sets, and vandalism of critical government infrastructure across various communities in the state.
The Traditional Rulers said that the willful destruction of public infrastructure by vandals would henceforth attract sever sanctions, saying that such damaged facilities would not be replaced by the government, rather heads of the affected communities.
The traditional rulers however adopted a new set of etiquette designed to regulate the conduct of members, disclosing that the primary objective of the new code of conduct which took effect from November 30, 2017 was to ensure that traditional rulers in Delta State conduct themselves with the highest degree of decorum, and dignity befitting of their status as traditional rulers of their different kingdoms.
The council therefore urged members to abide by the details of the code in the collective interest of the traditional institution, insisting that they should remain apolitical as the January 6, 2018 Local Government Election approaches.
While appealing to politicians to play the game according to the rule, the monarchs added that they should retain from unguarded utterances, and hate speeches capable of inciting one party against another for selfish political motives.
Meanwhile, the state association of the Deaf (DSAD) has called on the state government to ensure it is part of decision and policy making so as to feel the impact of the prosperity agenda of the present administration.
The Association’s Chairman, Mr. Jolly Oritseweyinmi who spoke to a group of journalists yesterday on the association’s alleged neglect, others said: “we should be given equal rights like our hearing counterparts because we do not see our deafness as a barrier to make headway in life, we can do anything if given the opportunity except to Lear”.
