The Competition and Consumer Protection tribunal sitting in Abuja, has ordered the Multichoice Nigeria Limited to restrain from carrying out the impending increase in tariffs and cost of its products and services intended to take effect from 1April, 2022.

The panel ordered the ruling subsists pending the hearing and determination of the Motion On Notice before the tribunal.

The three man panel of the tribunal, presided by Thomas E Okosun, by the order mandated the parties to maintain status quo pending the hearing and determination of the Motion On Notice. 

Consequently, the tribunal adjourned till April 11 for hearing on the motion on notice.

The applicants, Barrister Festus Sanmi Onifade and the Coalition of Nigeria Consumers petitioned Multi choice Nigeria Limited and Federal Competition Protection over proposed increments in tariff and cost of services.

In a motion ex-parte, with suit number, CC.PT/OP I T 12022, dated on the 29th March, ,brought pursuant to Section 39 (1) & (b) of Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission Act 2018, the Applicants sought the following order;

AN ORDER of interim injunction restraining the 1st applicant by itself, agents,from carrying out the impending increase in tariffs and representatives, officers or privies, howsoever described,cost of its products and services intended to take effect from 1” April ,2022 pending the hearing and determination of the Motion On Notice.
