A tricycle union member, Mohammed Umar, is to spoend three months in prison, for stealing a Galaxy tab 3 and a Nokia cell phone, valued at N145, OOO.

Umar was arraigned alongside Mohammed Adnan, 19; Shuaibu Auwal, 20; and Hayatu Adamu, 21, in a Grade 1 Area Court in Kado, Abuja, for joint act and theft.

The presiding judge, Malam Abubakar Sadiq, sentenced Umar, 25, after he pleaded guilty to theft.

Sadiq, who did not give the convict an option to pay a fine, also ordered him to pay N120, 000 to the nominal complainant within three months.

Meanwhile, Sadiq ordered that Adnan, Auwal and Adamu be remanded in prison custody, pending hearing in their bail application.

Sadiq adjourned the case until June 30 for the hearing.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Cpl. Simeon Emmanuel, said one Miss Zainab Bashiru and Mr. Opene Kelvin both of Magagipe Village, FCT, lodged a report against the accused at the Life Camp Police Station on June 13, 2013.

Emmanuel said the complainants were on their way to make purchases at Magagipe at about 2 p.m. on May 12 when the accused blocked them and snatched their Galaxy tab 3 and Nokia cell phone valued at N145, OOO.

After the charge was read to them, Umar admitted committing the crime, while the three others pleaded not guilty. (NAN)
