Troops arrest 2 suspects with 444 bullets in Taraba
Troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Wukari, have arrested two suspected gunrunners during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Wukari–Ikyaior Road in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The operation, conducted on 19 March 2026, led to the interception and arrest of two suspects who were riding on a motorcycle.
The suspects, been identified as Wisdom Soomga, 32, from Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, and Elisha Danladi, 38, a native of Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State, were in possession of 444 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
They also had in their possession, cash totaling ₦29,200, two mobile phones, ATM cards, charms, personal belongings, and the motorcycle used for transportation.
According to Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, the acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations 6 Brigade, both suspects and the recovered items are currently in custody for further investigation to ascertain the source and intended use of the ammunition.
The Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, has commended the troops for their vigilance, and prompt response and urged them to sustain the momentum.
He assured law-abiding citizens of the Nigerian Army’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, while calling on the public to support security agencies with timely and credible information on suspicious activities.
The Commander reiterated his commitment to a robust reward and disciplinary system, emphasizing that officers and soldiers who demonstrate professionalism, dedication, and courage during operations will be duly recognized and rewarded.
