Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have killed several Lakurawa terrorists and recovered high-caliber machine guns, ammunition, and motorcycles during clearance operations in Arewa Dandi Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The operational success was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Spokesperson for the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army, Lt.-Col. Olaniyi Osoba.
According to Osoba, troops advanced through identified terrorist enclaves around the Gumki general area, near the Nigeria-Niger border, where they engaged the insurgent elements with superior firepower.
“Upon making contact within the fringes of the Nigeria-Niger border, troops engaged the terrorist elements with superior firepower, eliminating several terrorists while others abandoned their positions and fled into the deep forest,” the statement read.
A follow-up search of the area led to the recovery of key combat assets, including:1 PKT machine gun
AK-47 rifles, a large quantity of 7.62 x 54mm belted ammunition, 7.62mm special rounds, motorcycles, 2 smartphones, N87,000 cash and assorted combat items.
Lt.-Col. Osoba added that troops are maintaining a strong operational presence and dominating the general area to ensure the total security of neighbouring communities.
