Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded significant successes in ongoing operations against terrorism and banditry in Sokoto and Katsina states, neutralising terrorists, rescuing abductees and recovering weapons, motorcycles and rustled livestock.
According to a statement by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt.-Col. Aliyu Danja, the first operation took place on June 21 when terrorists attempted to infiltrate Tureta town in Sokoto State.
Acting on credible intelligence, troops swiftly engaged the attackers, forcing them to abandon their mission and flee the area.
The fleeing terrorists were later tracked through aerial surveillance to Sulubawa Gidan Kare village, where they were seen moving with abducted civilians and rustled livestock. Troops launched a pursuit operation and successfully fought through an ambush mounted by the criminals.
The operation resulted in the rescue of the abductees, recovery of rustled cattle and seizure of two motorcycles used by the terrorists.
In a separate operation on June 22, troops carried out an intelligence-led dawn raid on a suspected terrorist hideout in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The raid overwhelmed the terrorists, leading to the neutralisation of two of them, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds.
Troops recovered one PKT assault rifle, one AK-47 rifle with ammunition, three motorcycles, mobile communication devices, rustled livestock and other logistics items from the hideout.
Danja said the successes reflected the determination and professionalism of Operation FANSAN YAMMA troops in combating terrorism and criminality across the North-West.
He assured residents that sustained offensive operations would continue to dismantle terrorist networks and restore peace and security in the region.
