Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has described Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, as a major national and state asset, praising its long-standing role in advancing human capital, research, innovation, and economic development.
The governor made the remarks at the 2026 ABU Alumni Get-Together and Award Night held over the weekend at the Sardauna Foundation in Kaduna, where he was represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe.
Governor Sani highlighted that ABU’s presence in Kaduna continues to elevate the state’s national and international standing by producing generations of distinguished leaders, scholars, professionals, and public servants.
Reaffirming his administration’s support for higher education, he noted that the state has made targeted investments in surrounding infrastructure, including road upgrades, to foster a thriving academic environment.
ABU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adamu Ahmed, commended the Kaduna State Government for undertaking the largest intervention by any state government in the university over the past four decades, specifically pointing to ongoing road infrastructure projects across the campus.
President of the ABU Alumni Association Worldwide, Mallam Adamu Mamman Kontagora, expressed gratitude to the administration for rehabilitating and constructing internal roads on the Zaria campus, describing it as a vital contribution to both the institution and the surrounding community.
Chairman of the Kaduna State Branch of the ABU Alumni Association, Engr. Abubakar Gambo Umar, stated that the gathering served to deepen unity among graduates and renew their pledge to support the university’s development, emphasizing ABU’s widespread impact across public service, medicine, technology, and engineering.
The celebration brought together graduates from various fields to honor distinguished alumni, celebrate the institution’s legacy, and discuss actionable ways to further support ABU’s future growth.
