The senator representing Anambra Central, Victor Umeh, has said the internal dynamics of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) made it unlikely for Peter Obi to secure its presidential ticket.
Umeh, who spoke during an appearance on Prime Time, a programme on Arise Television, noted that early signs within the coalition pointed to an imbalance that worked against Obi’s chances.
The lawmaker explained that members familiar with the party’s internal arrangements could easily foresee the outcome, adding that Obi’s eventual decision to leave the ADC did not come as a surprise.
Obi had recently resigned from the ADC and moved to the Nigeria Democratic Congress alongside former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) Rabiu Kwankwaso.
According to Umeh, the coalition that birthed the ADC arrangement lacked proper groundwork, as it brought together politicians from different blocs without establishing a clear leadership structure.
He, however, expressed optimism that such alliances could evolve over time, noting that with better coordination, they may eventually produce a strong and unified candidate for future elections.
