UniAbuja: LICMEHRA, MAHRAS organize debate for students

The leadership of Lifeline Centre for Medical and Health Rights Advocacy (LICMEHRA) in partnership with Medical and Health Rights Advocacy Society (MAHRAS) on Wednesday organized a public debate tittled “Increased Litigation against Medical Practitioners: A way of Curbing medical Negligence in Nigeria” for the students of the Holy Rosary Girls’ College Gwagwalada and Everest Heights Academy Gwagwalada.
Speaking at the occasion, the President/Chief Executive Officer of LICMEHRA, DrUwakweAbugu, who is also a lecturer at the University of Abuja, said the leadership of LICMEHRA would continue to sensitize Nigerians on their Health rights.
He said he would not hesitate to pursue policy aimed at enforcing medical and health rights in Nigerian hospitals.
He, however, expressed dismay the manner at which the medical doctors were treating patients badly on daily basis in the hospitals.
Abugu advised Nigerians to always report the cases of patients’ rights abuses to appropriate authorities for necessary actions.
On his part, the Director of MAHRAS, University of Abuja, Kingsley Okpala, said his leadership would continue to create awareness for Nigerian patients on their basic rights.
Okpala pointed out that the leadership of MAHRAS would continue to disseminate information on health and medical rights education in public schools and institutions of higher learning in the interest of the students.
However, at the end of the debate competition, the student from the Everest Heights Academy took the 1st position while the 2nd position went to the Holy Rosary Girls’ College.
