A 100-level student of Education Biology at Yobe State University, Damaturu, Amina Yakubu, has lost her life in a fatal road accident.
The incident occurred on Saturday around 5:30 p.m. along Gujba Road, near the University’s main gate, when a tricycle (Keke Napep) carrying Amina and others collided with a vehicle.
She was confirmed dead at the scene, while four other occupants of the tricycle, including one of the University’s matrons, sustained varying degrees of injuries. The tragic development has thrown the University community into mourning.
The acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bukar Jamri, through the institution’s Information Officer, Abdulmumin Kolo Gulani, described Amina as “a promising young lady from Potiskum Local Government Area of Yobe State.”
“The University management is working closely with relevant authorities to ensure the injured students receive necessary medical attention.
Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, also expressed deep shock over the incident. In a condolence message to the bereaved family, the Governor said
“My heartfelt condolences go to the parents, friends, and relations of the deceased. I also extend sympathy to the Vice-Chancellor, staff, students, and the entire University community over the loss of this young and promising student.”
Governor Buni prayed for the repose of Amina’s soul in Aljannah Firdaus and for the family to have the fortitude to bear the loss.
He further directed that the injured victims receive free medical treatment and urged motorists to exercise caution, particularly during the rainy season.
