The Vice President, Kashim Shettima has heaped a praise on Bayero University Kano, BUK, saying that the institution, since its establishment in 1975, has matured to become a centre of academic excellence in Nigeria and globally.
Shettima stated this in his goodwill speech at the commissioning ceremony of the Centre of Excellence building complex in BUK on Monday.
The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, in 2012 commenced building of Centre of Excellence complex across the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria, as the apex bank situated that of Northwest region in BUK.
The building of the Centre, containing two five storey buildings, one which contains accomodation of 193 rooms, gym and other facilities, while the other houses departments and conferences, was completed in 2023.
Speaking while commissioning the edifices, Shettima noted that BUK had produced some of the world’s best intellectuals, administrators, innovators and doers in the arts and sciences.
According to the Vice President, who was represented by his Special Adviser to the President on Economic Affairs in the Office of the Vice President, Dr Tope FasuaBUK had maintained that focus on continuous development, infrastructure building and maintenance.
He added that its commitment to excellence is the reason why the complex was sited and build in the institution.
“We are here today to commission this building to the glory of Almighty Allah who maketh all things possible. It is with great pride, hope, and joy that we attend this event today.
“Gratitude should be extended to the Central Bank of Nigeria, for this initiative, and cognizance must be made of these kinds of interventions that add to the positive metamorphosis of our nation, and especially our educational sector.
“It is therefore hoped, that the activation of this magnificent Centre of Excellence will add considerable value to the already established status of Kano State, Northwest Nigeria, and Nigeria as a whole.
I am hopeful, that through the research work that will take place in this centre, the horizon of commerce, banking, finance, and trade will be expanded and that Nigeria can begin to consolidate her position as a hub for value-addition, industrialization, and even the harnessing of the new vista of artificial intelligence, machine learning, nanotechnology,
