Security agencies will soon descend on state governors deploying thugs to prevent members of the opposition parties from mounting campaign materials in their domains in the build up to next year’s general election.
The National Security Adviser (NSA), Major General Babagana Monguno (retd) disclosed this on Thursday, warning the state chief executives to call their thugs to order before the agenvies swing into action as the outcome may be unpalatable.
General Monguno who appeared on the weekly Ministerial Media Briefing anchored by the Presidential Communications Team at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, warned that when the law enforcement agencies move, there will be no hiding place for the perpetrators.
The NSA who was reacting to reports of some state chiefs executives implementing policies that prevent the presence of opposition campaign materials in their domain, described that action as a demonstration of inferiority complex.
He warned the governors to restrain their thugs as he said that the President has already given the security hierarchy a clear directive to ensure that the 2023 election “ is free, fair and credible.”
The NSA further warned the governors to “call their Capo regime to order because when we move, there will be no hiding place.”
Meanwhile, apparently irked by the latest fire incident at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Ogun state, including other states, the security czar disclosed that security agencies had begun a manhunt to arrest perpetrators of the crime.
He assured that no amount of security threats will stop the 2023 general elections from taking place according to plan, as the President has vowed to deliver a free, fair and transparent election.
Recall that some suspected hoodlums recently set the INEC office at Iyana Mortuary lll in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital on fire.
Trouble was said to have started when the hoodlums, numbering less than ten reportedly scaled the perimeter fence, into the premises and set the umpire building on fire from behind.
They were alleged to have invaded the premises, soaked loaves of bread with petrol and threw them into the building at different angles to light up the INEC office.
