Aliko Dangote, the chairman of the Dangote Industries Limited (DIL), has vowed to keep fighting to ensure petrol pump prices remain low across the country.
Speaking at a news conference at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, the billionaire said he had observed that some filling stations are still selling petrol at over N900 per litre, despite attempts to make the product cheaper at the pumps.
Dangote said some oil marketers are deliberately keeping petrol prices high.
However, he said from Tuesday, Nigerians will no longer buy a litre of the commodity for N900.
“..this price we’re going to introduce, we’re going to start with the MRS station, most likely on Tuesday in Lagos. That N900 and something, you won’t see it again,” he said.
“We have also asked members of IPMAN and anybody who can buy 10 trucks to come and buy at N699. We’re going to use whatever resources we have to make sure that we crash the price.”
Dangote also vowed to ensure that petrol is sold at the price of N714 per litre nationwide in December and January.
“The ones that want to keep the price to sabotage the refinery, we will fight as much as we can to make sure that these prices are down,” the billionaire said.
Since coming on stream, the Dangote refinery has implemented many ex-gantry price cuts in an effort to reduce pump prices.
In the recent gesture on December 12, the refinery slashed the ex-gantry price of petrol to N699 per litre — a N129 cut from the previous price of N828 per litre.
Dangote had said his refinery will continue to reduce the price of the product to compete with importers.
