Professor Hadiza Galadanchi, Director of the Africa Center of Excellence for Population Health and Policy (ACEPHA), says the center has trained over 274 Health Professionals on Population Health with the aim of addressing Population Health Challenges.
Professor Galadanchi disclosed this at Bayero University Kano’s (BUK) first international conference on population health.
The conference, themed “Resilience and Optimization: Building Sustainable Population Health in Africa,” brought together experts from across the globe to discuss critical health challenges facing the continent.
Prof. Galadanchi highlighted ACEPHA’s impressive achievements since its establishment in 2019, including introducing five new postgraduate programs, such as PhDs in Public Health, and training over 274 postgraduate students from various African countries.
“Our research has yielded positive results in areas like anemia during pregnancy, and I am confident that we will continue to be a leading hub for population health in Africa and beyond,” she said.
Representing the Vice Chancellor of BUK, Prof. Sagir Abbas, the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics, Sani M. Gumel, welcomed participants to the conference, emphasizing its significance in improving the general health status of the people.
“This conference is a testament to the dedication of our university community and a step towards advancing global health challenges in Africa,” he said.
The conference aimed to forge international development in the health sector, facilitating the exchange of ideas and experiences to achieve set objectives.
On his part, Prof. Abdulrahman Abba Sheshe, Chief Medical Director of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, expressed hope that the conference would fine-tune research modalities to improve public health.

He noted that the conference was very timely,stressing that the traditional institution would not relent in ensuring that the needed data were provided for policy makers to ensure adequate planning to address the challenges.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by his deputy, Comrade Abdulsalam Gwarzo, commended BUK and ACEPHA for organizing the conference.
He emphasized the importance of addressing population health challenges in Africa and noted that his administration has prioritized the health sector, achieving significant milestones since taking office.
