Why we created ‘APC Sak’ in Kano, by Mairiga

Date:

From Mustapha Adamu, Kano

A splinter group in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano state, tagged “APC Sak” has revealed that the rational behind the creation of the group is to oppose the APC Kwankwasiyya .

The chairman of the group, Husaini Isah Mairiga, accused the Kano State governor, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of dominating the party’s activities, thereby giving preference to members of APC Kwankwasiyya over members of the legacy parties, which he described as unconstitutional, lacks justice and fairness.

Mairiga, who was a member of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), lamented how governor Kwankwaso is using his power as the party’s leader in the state to allocate larger share of the party’s leadership seats to members of APC Kwankwasiyya.

He argued that, “Kwankwasiyya is not a political party but a group of people created by one individual, using his power as the state governor which is against Nigeria’s constitution. That is why we have decided to create our own faction as APC Sak because we are not in support of Kwankwasiyya.”

“Let the governor harmonize the party in the sense that everybody in the party is given equal treatment and carried along, irrespective of being from Kwankwasiyya or the legacy parties. Why are we not calling ourselves “APC ANPP?” He asked rhetorically.

Continuing Mairiga revealed that “There are 484 wards in Kano State, but about 450 ward chairmen of the APC are from APC Kwankwasiyya. Out of the 44 local governments party chairmen, about 40 of them are from APC kwankwasiyya. This kind of disparity is the reason why we are tired and created our own faction.”

The faction chairman described the action taken to split the party in the state as the best way to protect its integrity, adding that their faction is on the right course with justice and fairness and would save the party from failure come 2015.
