The Coordinator Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), Chief Felix Amechi Obuah has expressed readiness to enforce the 2003 Insurance Act, to guarantee complete safety of all players in the industry.
In particular, Obuah reaffirmed that the Department of Development Control of the Council is committed to enforcing all relevant laws in the industry including the 2003 Insurance Act.
He spoke while addressing developers, professionals, regulatory bodies and representative of relevant agencies of building industry during a recent stakeholders meeting in Abuja.
The Coordinator, who was represented by the Acting Director-General of FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD), Mrs. Florence Wenegieme, opined that the 2003 Insurance Act is not just a legal document, but also a blueprint for safeguarding the lives of the workers, the integrity of the building and the well being of the communities.
According to him: “We stand on a threshold of an important journey as we prepare to implement the 2003 Insurance Act.
“The legislation represents a pivotal step forward for Nigeria, encapsulating the ideals of safety, security and professionalism within our construction and development sectors.”
Obuah explained that the Act mandates comprehensive insurance coverage, ensure that all stakeholders are protected against unforseen risk and liabilities.
He added that the safety of workers and buildings, protection of lives, employment generation, increase in productivity and enhancement of professionalism has been well covered by the Act.
