Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike has dismissed media reports claiming he is lobbying to become the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council.
Reaffirming his commitment to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election, Wike declared that he does not need a formal title or position on the APC’s campaign hierarchy to guarantee victory in Rivers State and the FCT.
The response follows reports listing Wike among prominent ruling party chieftains and senior government officials allegedly vying for the top campaign post.
Clarifying his position through a statement issued on Monday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the FCT Minister labelled the reports completely baseless, maintaining that he has had zero discussions regarding campaign council leadership with anyone.
Wike emphasized that his political machinery in Rivers State and authority in the FCT are sufficient to yield massive vote margins for President Tinubu without holding the campaign DG title or even formal membership in the APC Campaign Council.
Speaking from outside the country where he is taking a working break, Wike noted he recently concluded an intensive 30-day streak commissioning, flagging off, and inspecting infrastructure projects scheduled through early next year.
Upon his return, the minister assured that his priority remains driving governance and executing capital projects across the territory to strengthen the administration’s appeal ahead of the polls.
