Windstorm destroys houses, electric poles in Minna

Date:

From Yakubu Mustapha, Minna

Houses and electric poles worth millions of naira were destroyed as residents of Minna, on Monday night, were gripped with fear as they witnessed a severe windstorm and heavy rainfall.

The dusty wind and stormy rain, which started exactly 8.25 pm disrupted movements, as commuters hurriedly rushed home for safety.

Our reporter gathered that most of the houses affected were old buildings built with clay and plywood.

The Maikunkele, Dutsen Kura Gwari and Maitumbi axis of the Minna city were the most affected as the storm removed most roofs leaving the houses bare.

Drivers left the road and parked for fear of head-on-collision as most people resulted to hide for safety for fear of flying objects.

The wind, accompanied by lightening and thunderstorm, roared strongly, instilling more fear on residents who refused to come out to assist those whose roofs and houses were affected.

It took the rain to appease the unending storm described by many as hurricane, to a stop at about 9:10pm.
