The Women Initiative for Sustainable Environment (WISE), in partnership with the Energy and Environmental Law Club of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has engaged women and youths in clean cooking entrepreneurship as part of efforts to promote climate action and sustainable livelihoods.
The event was held during the EcoCare Campus Initiative 2026 Clean-Up Campaign at ABU Zaria’s Kongo Campus and organised in honour of Comrade Jerry Adams, a former Executive Chairman of the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS).
Speaking at the event, WISE Founder and Director, Olanike Olugboji Daramola, stressed the importance of understanding climate change and the role individuals can play in addressing it.
She said WISE leads environmental initiatives by empowering people, particularly women and youths, to become environmental stewards, climate advocates and peacebuilders in their communities.
Olugboji Daramola added that the organisation promotes sustainable cooking and lighting solutions while working to transform communities through eco-friendly practices and increased access to renewable energy.
She also said WISE was positioning women as leaders in innovative waste recycling and upcycling initiatives to promote a cleaner and greener future for communities across the country.
The director described WISE’s approach to environmental sustainability as comprehensive, with projects covering hygiene, municipal waste management, tourism and clean energy advocacy.
Participants in the EcoCare Campus Initiative 2026 took part in campus and community clean-up activities, environmental awareness sessions and volunteer activities in honour of Adams and his contributions to public service.
Members of the ABU Zaria Energy and Environmental Law Club joined WISE volunteers in mobilising students and residents for the clean-up and outreach activities, aimed at promoting environmental responsibility among young people.
The campaign ended with a call for greater collaboration among civil society organisations, academic institutions and government agencies to expand climate education and green entrepreneurship opportunities for women and youths.
