The National Industrial Court Abuja, yesterday ordered the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET) to pay a whistleblower, Sambo Abdullahi, all his salaries and other emoluments from December 22, 2017, till date.
Abdullahi alongside Waziri Bintube, who were staff of NBET, had exposed several alleged fraudulent acts by Marilyn Amobi, the NBET’s Managing Director.
Following the development, the electricity company stopped his salaries, consequently, Abdullahi, on December 7, 2018,
approached the court asking it to restrain NBET from doing anything that will further affect his employment.
Delivering the judgement, justice Oyejoju Oyewunmi, held that the suspension in 2017 and refusal to allow the complainant his annual leave was wrong.
Justice Oyewunmi ordered that all his salary and emoluments should be paid with immediate effect.
The court also held that the failure of NBET to pay Mr Abdullahi’s accrued salary and other emoluments within 30 days would attract 21 per cent of the accrued salary and other emoluments per annum.
