As Nigerian joined in marking World Earth Day, children in the country have called on governments to ban littering of plastic.
The children who spoke during the programme organized by Save the Children International (SCI), Nigeria, themed; “Planet verses plastic”, said there is an urgent need to make the environment and the sea life safer for inhabitants.
They lamented how nylon bags, sachet water and other littered plastics affects the environment.
The children said the government should come up with laws to ban littering so as to make the environment and the sea safer.
The children also called on governments at all levels to encourage Waste Management Agency to work effectively in addressing challenges.
They called on community leaders and schools to encourage planting of trees and management of waste.
The children also called for reduction in carbon emission in the country.
On her part, Health and Nutrition Advocacy Assistant, SCI, Faith Osaretin, said they will take the message of the children to relevant stakeholders like government, schools and other partners.
“Under the generations hope campaign, we are targeting various schools in the FCT.
“ We will also teach the children on disaster preparedness. We want to get commitment and get government to take action on these challenges.
