Yero signs law banning motorcycle operators

Kaduna State Governor Muktar Ramalan Yero yesterday signed the law that banned commercial Motorcyclists from operating within Kaduna state and environs with effect from May 21st, 2014.

The ban followed the passage of the bill by the State House of Assembly last week.

It was gathered the law would be operational in 8 local government areas of the state. They are Kaduna-North, Kaduna-South, Chikun (areas of Unguwan Yelwa, Sabon-Tasha, Maraban Rido, Narayi, Unguwan Rimi, Gonin-Gora, Kamazo, Unuguwan-Boro, Nasarawa, Trikaniya, Kudandan), Igabi LG (Rigasa, Mando and Rigachikun).

Others include; Zaria township, Sabon Gari local government area to include Sabon-Gari, Samaru, Basawa, Hanwa.

Zaria local government areas such as Zaria city, Wusasa, Gyallesu, Tudun-Wada, Gwargwaji, Gaskiya, Tukur-tukur, Magume, Danmagaji, Local government layout, Police barracks, state polytechnic.

Others include Kafanchan township excluding surrounding villages; Lere local government areas such as Abadawa-Unguwan Bawa (Jos-Zaria road, Saminaka), Low-cost Jaja village (Kano-Zango road) Birnin Gwari, ungwa Nachibi along Birnin-Gwari/Funtua road, Kwadaga and Janbirni villages, Dogon dawa- Kaduna road while in Giwa Local Government areas like Farin Ruwa-Zaria road and Maraban-Yakawada/Kuyello road are all affected.

The law states that any person who contravenes the provisions of the law shall be guilty of the offence and shall be liable upon conviction to a fine not exceeding 10, 000 naira or three (3) months imprisonment or both. For any subsequent offence, offenders shall pay a fine of not exceeding N20, 000, or 6 months imprisonment or both.

Peoples Daily gathered with the signing of the law, it showed that all calls on the state governor not to sign the law has fallen on deaf ear.
