Yobe, Bauchi resolve to set up JFT on boundary demarcation

In their continued effort to resolve issues of conflict resulting from disputes over ownership and rights over the use of land, water and grazing land, governments of Yobe and Bauchi had reached an agreement to set up a Joint Field Team (JTF) to complete work on the definition of and delimitation.
This was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of a joint meeting of officials on Bauchi, Yobe interstate boundary committees held at the Yobe state.
The meeting which was Chaired by Dr.Muhammad Bose Ahmad, Director-General, National Boundary Commission, discussed the status of past work and work out programme of activities towards the definition of the boundary between the two states.
The communiqué’s resolutions and recommendations which was based on discussions on contributions received from participants at the meeting, also stated that the JFT should undertake the tracing and provisional demarcation as well as field completion of the Fika, Nangere, and Jakusko in Yobe state, Darazo, Dambam, Gamawa and zaki in Bauchi state local government areas sectors from 26th February to 16th April, 2018.
It equally recommends that the two state governments, the affected local government councils as well as the traditional institutions should carry out proper enlightenment campaign to sensitize the people on the field work not later than a week to the commencement date of the field exercise.
Other recommendations, as contained in the communiqué called on the Commission to take steps to ratify the BABO Accord of 1986 with respect to the Fika, Darazo sector and direct its permanent demarcation accordingly.
Earlier in his welcome address during the meeting, Engr. Abubakar D. Aliyu, deputy governor of Yobe state, commended the efforts of national boundary commission in the definition of internal boundaries of Nigeria.
