In a significant move to revitalize primary education, the Yobe State Government has officially employed 948 teachers, absorbing a large number of former volunteers into the formal sector.
The announcement was made yesterday in Damaturu by the Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Alhaji Umaru Hassan Babayo, following a high-level meeting with the State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni.
Babayo clarified that mass recruitment is a strategic initiative to address critical manpower shortages across the state’s primary schools.
He revealed that a majority of the newly employed staff were previously serving as volunteer teachers, dedicated to educating children without formal government engagement.
“Today, we are formally integrating these committed individuals into the system,” Babayo stated.
“This not only validates their service but also provides them with the stability and benefits of formal employment.”
To ensure the new recruits are equipped for modern classroom challenges, the SUBEB Chairman announced plans for comprehensive training workshops.
“The board is organizing capacity-building workshops to arm them with additional pedagogical skills for the effective and efficient dissemination of knowledge,” he added.
