The Yobe State Government has imposed an immediate embargo on all contract appointments across the state’s public service, following the approval of Governor Mai Mala Buni.
According to the statement, signed by Alhassan Sule Mamudo, Information Officer in the Office of the Yobe State Head of Service, described the measure as a reform aimed at strengthening succession planning and career management in the state’s workforce.
He said in a circular issued by the Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa Shehu, the government directed that the Office of the Head of Service no longer process or entertain applications for new contract appointments.
According to the circular, all serving contract officers will be allowed to complete their current terms but will not be eligible for renewal, extension, or re-engagement after their contracts expire.
However, the embargo excludes certain categories of essential personnel whose services are critical to the functioning of government institutions.
Alhassan said these include medical doctors, other health professionals, expatriates, and specialized technical personnel.
