The Yobe State Security Council has put forth a festive season plan, assuring residents of a “relatively calm” security situation while also addressing potential threats as the holiday season approaches.
The council issued a clear warning to drug traffickers: either stop or leave the state.
These measures were revealed after an end-of-year Security Council meeting led by Yobe Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, who shared insights with journalists on behalf of the state’s security leaders.
Recognizing the “unpredictable” nature of threats, the Council mentioned that they’ve thoroughly reviewed the state’s security framework, pinpointed weaknesses, and crafted solid strategies to tackle them.
While specific operational details remain under wraps for security reasons, officials promised that all plans would be fully executed with the necessary resources.
“Taking proactive measures to reduce criminal activities that often spike during the festive season.
“A firm warning to drug traffickers, along with expanded anti-drug programs aimed at schools, motor parks, and transport unions to reduce substance use among drivers.
“The Task Force on Street Trading is being reactivated, and the State Traffic Management Agency (YUROTA) will undergo retraining to address issues like overloading and reckless driving.
“There will be improved intelligence-gathering and stronger cooperation between agencies to confront emerging threats.” He emphasized.
The Council also talked about contingency plans for an upcoming recruitment drive to avoid any related security issues.
In closing, the Council emphasized the importance of public vigilance, reminding everyone that security is a shared responsibility.
He said, “If you see something, say something,” CP Ado urged, calling for ongoing cooperation to keep Yobe State safe from crime.
