From Muhammad Maitela, Damaturu
The Yobe State Government has transferred four major agro-industrial assets to the Nigeria Food Corporation (NFC) for rehabilitation and eventual full-scale operation as part of efforts to revive the state’s industrial sector.
The handover, which took place at the Governor’s Office in Damaturu, was chaired by the Secretary to the Yobe State Government (SSG), Dr. Mohammed Goje.
The development is part of the state government’s broader Agro-Food Industrial Revolution initiative, aimed at transforming Yobe into a competitive agro-industrial hub through investment in processing, manufacturing and agricultural value chains.
Four Assets Transferred to NFC
The assets handed over to the NFC include:
Yobe Flour & Feeds Mills Company Limited
Wheat Flour Global Mills Company Limited
Yobe State Fertilizer Blending Company, Gujba Ltd
Damaturu Modern Abattoir
The two flour-related companies were transferred by the Yobe Investment Company Limited, while the fertilizer blending company was transferred by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Tourism and Solid Minerals.
The Damaturu Modern Abattoir was transferred by the Ministry of Livestock Development.
Two other assets — the Nguru Oil Mills and property designated for the headquarters of the NFC — were listed for subsequent consideration, pending reconciliation of shareholders’ interests.
Transfer to Revive Dormant Industrial Assets
Speaking at the ceremony, Goje said the transfer was consistent with Governor Mai Mala Buni’s vision of repositioning Yobe State as a major agro-industrial centre.
He said the initiative was designed to revive dormant industrial assets, increase productivity, create employment opportunities and expand the state’s revenue base.
According to him, transferring the assets to the NFC would provide a coordinated institutional framework for their rehabilitation, investment and eventual commencement of full-scale operations.
NFC Commits to Agro-Industrial Transformation
The transfer documents were signed by the Chairman of the NFC Board of Directors, Dr. Sa’id Alkali Kori, and witnessed by the Managing Director of the corporation, Dr. Babagana Mohammed Adam.
Kori expressed appreciation to Governor Buni for entrusting the corporation with the assets, describing the handover as a significant milestone in Yobe State’s agro-industrial transformation.
He said the initiative would help move Yobe beyond primary agricultural production towards an integrated agro-industrial value chain.
According to him, the rehabilitation and operation of the facilities would enhance the processing of locally produced raw materials, create employment, attract investments and strengthen the state’s internally generated revenue.
