The Otunba (traditional prime minister) of Yoruba Community Association in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr. Wasiu Tunwase, has urged politicians to embrace peace, by eschewing all forms of violence during and after the country’s 2015 general elections, in the Territory.
Tunwase, who made the call in an interview with Peoples Daily in his residence in Zuba, said that politics should be played in an atmosphere of peace and harmony anytime of the day.
He condemned some politicians who are bent on engaging youths as thugs to ferment trouble during elections, pointing out that if we are going to ensure peace and stability during the elections.
Stressing the need for politicians to be united irrespective of their political and religious differences, he reiterated that politics is not a do- or- die affair.
He insisted that politics is supposed to be a noble career, but it has been misused by the some politicians, who want to clinch power by all means.
He however called on the citizenry to come out en masse in 2015 to vote for only credible candidates who would carry them to the Promised Land.
Commenting on the security challenges in FCT and the country at large, the Yoruba community leader, made a passionate appeal to President Goodluck Jonathan to redouble his effort towards tackling the insurgents, in order to pave way for peaceful elections next year.
Similarly, Tunwase pleaded with the President to continue providing the needed facilities in the institutions of higher learning for the benefit of students.
