Nigeria youth Team representing the country in the forth- coming Youth Olympic Game coming up next month in Argentina has been charged to compete clean and see sports not as an exercise but as a career that way they will be able to succeed in the competition.
The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development Mr Olusade Adesola said this when he paid a visit to the Team at the Agura Hotel camp in Abuja.
H e advised the Team to make the best out of life as their success in life depends on them. As youths he said you cannot exceed your potentials without going extra mile and the way you conduct yourself.
He encourages them to be guided by the principle that “whatever that is good is good for them and for the country”.
According to him, the Ministry has provided a platform for them to excel and whatever they make out of it depends on them. He said they should see whatever they are doing as what they are doing for themselves and not for anybody.
Olusade also advised the Team to be ingenious and avoid taking any substance that will soil their image and that of the country. The sporting body according to him is not taking it low as there is no substance you take that will not be diagnosed.
He said Sports has gone scientific and encouraged the Coaches to develop themselves in other to meet up with trend in the sports world. He admonished them not to pressure their athletes to take what they are not supposed to take.
Responding on behalf of the athletes Inneh Emmanuel the Team Captain thanked the Permanent Secretary for making out time to see the Athletes and for his fatherly advice to them. He promised that the team will make the country proud.
Nigeria will be competing in 8 different sports in the Olympic which includes Athletics, Golf, Weightlifting, Badminton, Canoeing, Swimming,
