The Federal High Court sitting in Gusau, Zamfara State, has fixed August 31, 2026, for judgment in the suit filed by All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial aspirant, Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, challenging the outcome of the party’s Zamfara North Senatorial District primary election.
The case, presided over by Justice Hussaini Dikko, is between Shinkafi as the plaintiff and Senator Sahabi Ya’u Kaura, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as defendants.
At the resumed hearing on Friday, August 7, counsel for all parties adopted their final written addresses, in line with the court’s earlier directive.
Speaking to journalists after the proceedings, counsel to the plaintiff, Bello Galadi, confirmed that the adoption of final written addresses had been concluded, paving the way for judgment.
> “The court has fixed August 31 for judgment. We are confident that the judgment will be in favour of our client because we presented credible and convincing evidence to support our case,” Galadi said.
Shinkafi is challenging the outcome of the APC senatorial primary for Zamfara North, disputing the nomination of Senator Sahabi Ya’u Kaura as the party’s candidate.
The plaintiff contends that the process that produced Kaura as the APC candidate did not comply with the party’s guidelines and relevant electoral provisions. The APC and INEC, however, are defending the validity of the nomination.
The court’s judgment is expected to determine the legal dispute over the APC’s Zamfara North senatorial ticket ahead of the forthcoming elections.
