The Zamfara State branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has called on its members to, for the sake of sustaining the integrity of the association, lower the charges being imposed on the clients who engage them for legal services on their behalf before the courts.
This was conveyed by the Chairman of the Zamfara State branch of the NBA, barrister Junaidu Abubakar during the ‘Law Week’, saying the volume of charges on the clients sometimes appears the cause for clients to alternatively think of pursuing their cases before the courts even without legal practitioners.
The Chairman urged the teeming members of the NBA to always exercise their primary duties with simpler approaches with a view to ensure needed confidence is built for the general public to reverse the perception that ‘only first class people’ can afford legal services in the court.
“A lawyer should always serve as a friend whose service is affordable to all citizens when struggling for their rights, as that can quickly change the believe that, a solicitor is a different person who only becomes available for well to do clients”, barrister Abubakar charged.
He further dismissed the sayings that lawyers are not trusted, adding that, “Lawyers render their services in the best interest of the laws of the land, they don’t play any role leading to deprivation of rights or truth pursued by either the plaintiff or accused, but rather speak to guide the courts on provisions contained in the constitution on a particular case before the courts”.
