The Zamfara State Police Command has launched a massive search-and-rescue operation, following the abduction of several students from the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, by heavily armed bandits.
The incident, which occurred late Tuesday night, has once again thrown the academic community into anxiety, prompting immediate tactical deployment from both police and military forces in the state.
According to an official statement released by the Spokesperson for the Zamfara State Police Command, DSP Yazid Abubakar, the attack took place on Wednesday. Armed bandits reportedly stormed the outskirts of the Low-Cost Area in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, specifically targeting off-campus rented apartments housing the polytechnic students.
During the chaotic raid, the assailants rounded up seven students and marched them into the nearby forests to an unknown destination.
Upon receiving the distress call, a combined force of Joint Police Tactical Teams and military personnel attached to Operation Fansan Yamma—the frontline security operation in the zone—were rapidly mobilized to the scene.
While the bandits managed to flee into the brush before the heavily armed operatives arrived, security forces recorded a minor breakthrough.
One of the abducted seven students managed to break away from the captors during the retreat.
The student successfully escaped the bandits, navigated back to safety, and has since been reunited with security authorities.
The police command emphasized that all hands are on deck to track the kidnappers and ensure the safe return of the remaining six students.
Intensified Searches: Security forces have deep-combed the suspected escape routes and forest hideouts.
Intelligence teams are working concurrently to identify, locate, and apprehend the criminal ring behind the raid.
DSP Abubakar urged the public, particularly residents of Kaura Namoda and the student community, to remain calm and vigilant.
The Command pleaded for timely, credible information from locals, noting that community intelligence remains the most vital tool in neutralizing these criminal elements and bringing the students home safely.
