Zamfara recruits 100 nurses, midwives into civil service

Governor Abdul’aziz Yari Abubakar of Zamfara state has approved the immediate recruitment of 100 nurses and midwives into the state civil service.

The development was informed by the Secretary, state Hospital Services Management Board, Adamu Muhammad Dansadau, while receiving Save the Children advocacy officials, who paid him advocacy visit in his office over the recruitment of additional heath workers, particularly Doctors, Nurses and midwives.

He said, the approval was part of the present government commitments towards securing good healthcare services to all citizens particularly communities that have inadequate access to skilled health personnel.

Adamu Dansadau further explained that the state government has virtually resolved to post all the 100 nurses that were successfully scaled through to rural health facilities as soon as their letters of appointment were released.

The secretary maintained that the state government has signed an agreement with the developmental partner, Women for Health, for the recruitment of ten nurses and midwives each year within the five years of the project implementation in the state.

He said under the programme, Women for Health will be paying two years initial salary to the nurses and midwives recruited, while the state government will issue appointment letters to the employed staffers, and to take over the payment of their salaries after two years.

Earlier, the state advocacy officer of the save the children, Mr Isah Ibrahim, told the secretary that, data available in their custody indicated that many health personnel are leaving the state service without replacement.

He said statistic of health workers currently in the state shows that the state has lost over 40 medical doctors from 2012 to June this year.

“In 2012 the state service has suffered the lost of total number of 92 medical doctors on its payroll across the 22 general hospitals of the state, “But today, we are having less than fifty medical doctors across the 22 general hospitals”, he stated.
