Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, on Thursday presented Engr. Mustapha Gubio, the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus governorship candidate, to Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Gov. Zulum said Gubio’s emergence followed extensive consultations with party stakeholders across the state, describing the decision as a reflection of unity within the APC in Borno.
He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his “strategic leadership, support, and guidance” to both the government and the ruling party.
“I wish to express my profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the leadership he is providing in the country and for the enormous support of Borno State as well as the APC, which has been unprecedented,” he said.
He added that the President played a key role in the emergence of Gubio as the party’s consensus candidate.
The governor also acknowledged Vice President Shettima’s contributions to strengthening party cohesion in the state and his support for the consensus arrangement.
Zulum further appreciated the APC leadership at all levels, party stakeholders, and residents of the state for their support, prayers, and steadfastness, which he said paved the way for Gubio’s emergence.
The governor had earlier unveiled Engr. Mustapha Gubio was his preferred successor on Monday after purchasing the party’s Nomination and Expression of Interest forms ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Dignitaries present at the event included former Governor Maina Ma’aji Lawan; Deputy Governor, Hon. Umar Usman Kadafur; APC Deputy National Chairman, Ali Bukar Dalori; Senators Mohammed Tahir Monguno, Mohamed Ali Ndume, and Kaka Shehu Lawan (SAN).
