The leadership of the Northern Emancipation Network (NEN) has described the use of its name as plotting against the retention of Vice President Namadi Sambo on a joint presidential ticket as fraudulent and ambitious.
A statement signed by the Director General of the group, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, said they were embarrassed when they read that NEN was planning protests against the Vice President.
Suleiman disclosed that instead, NEN Central Governing Council met last week in Kaduna, where a vote of confidence was passed on Sambo’s exemplary loyalty to President Jonathan, by resisting the temptation from other quarters that prefer a confrontational relationship.
He said his group is sufficiently impressed by the unprecedented cordiality that marks the relation of between the President and his Vice.
“It is this type of relationship that made it possible for the administration to deliver on its promises, as contained in the Transformation Agenda,” Suleiman said.
He cited the manner in which President Jonathan raised the hand of Sambo at his declaration and his submission of President Jonathan’s Forms at the PDP secretariat as symbolic of endorsement as a price for loyalty.
“We urge northerners to resist those who are bent on vilifying the VP for their selfish political agenda and rally support for the man who is one of their own,” the statement concluded.
