2015: Kwara stakeholders want security agencies to mop-up ammunition among thugs

Ahead of 2015 general election, stakeholders in Kwara State have urged security agencies in the state to mop ammunitions among all the political thugs.

The stakeholders including all Political parties, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC),Trade Union Congress (TUC), Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Nigeria Union of Teachers(NUT) and transport union among others were invited by the Kwara Police Command for interaction ahead of 2015 general election.

While speaking on behalf of the labour movement, the state Chairman of NLC, Comrade Faruq Akanbi said there were proliferations of dangerous weapons in the state which are in the hands of political thugs.

Akanbi who expressed concern over the development said there was urgent need for all the security agencies to clean the state by mopping up these weapons among the hoodlums.

The Assistance Secretary of Kwara State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Ishola Abiola Moshood who exonerated his party members from any violence said the party don’t want undue favour from security agencies but they must ensure that votes of the electorates count.

He noted that during the distribution of Permanent Voters Card (PVC) in the state, no PDP member were caught disrupting peace in the state.

Earlier, some security agencies representatives have warned politicians and their supporters against violence in the state stressing that they would be dealt with “comprehensively” if they were caught.

In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Garba Soliu said the police would not condone any act of violence and disruption of peace before, during and after the election.

He noted that the action of political youth at the Eid praying ground where political slogans were shouted which disrupted the Imam’s sermon and Emir’s speech would not be tolerated again.

The command boss who condemned the party’s member’s action, saying it was against Islamic principle and culture of people of the state.
