Saraki’s influence no longer a factor in Kwara politics – Prof Oba

The outgoing Chairman of the Federal Character Commission and former Vice Chancellor University of Ilorin, Professor Oba Abdulraheem has boasted that the Saraki influence is no longer a factor in the Kwara State politics.

He said the name has no doubt paid its dues in the past within the Kwara politics but with the demise of the leader of the dynasty, late Chief Olusola Saraki it’s no longer scared any more.

Professor Oba said it would be an illusion for anyone to think that using the name could secure him the favours from the electorates saying that the people of the state are now wiser.

The former university Don who said he is aspiring for the Kwara State governorship position after collecting his nomination form yesterday at the PDP secretariat, said he has the desire to contribute his quota to the best of his ability and to do things according to the requirement of good politics.

“I have the desire to impact on the lives of my people by bringing them out of squalor, poverty and diseases”, he stated.

He added by quoting late Chinua Achebe that, “a disease that has never been seen would be cured by the medicine that has never been seen before” meaning that he would be the ultimate remedy for the people of the state.

Also in the senatorial race of Taraba South Senatorial district, Barr. Ishaya Bauka said the security challenges in the area propelled him to come out to contest considering hi 32 years service in the military.

Barr. Ishaya Bauka said he is not deterred by the influence of the incumbency as he said will use the platform of the national assembly to interact with other government agencies to ensure that “we bring unity to the state because of late there has been a lot of crisis and it is not the best for us; it does not augur well for our development and our well being”.
