2019: Customs net N161m revenue in Adamawa, Taraba-Comptroller

The Adamawa/Taraba States Area Command of the Nigeria Custom Service,NCS has generated revenue worth N161.9m surpassing its annual revenue target of N148.6 million for 2019 fiscal year.
Disclosing the development in Yola Tuesday while parading some seized items from unrepentant smugglers, Area Comptroller Kamarudeen Olumoh said the Command had an increase of N13.2 million which was 8.9% of the given target for last year(2019).
Comptroller Olumoh said effective border community relations and dedication of officers as well as sensitization of stakeholders on import and export procedures were among the reasons behind the achievements recorded.
On anti-smuggling activities, Olumoh told journalists round the office complex where the seized items were paraded including 256 bags of foreign parboiled rice concealed in bigger sacks of beans,A truck full of petroleum products suspected to be pms,330 Kg of pangolin .
According to him,2 suspects were arrested with the truck containing the concealed rice along Mubi/ Yola road while one Umar Aliyu was arrested with the many sacks of pangolin as the truck full of petroleum was abandoned along Belel border on signing the custom operatives on patrol.
“During the year under review, the command achieved major anti-smuggling feats. A total of seventy four (74) seizures were made with the rest of twenty (20) suspects.
“The seizures include; Foreign rice, pangolin scales smuggled in to the country and thirty three thousand, four hundred (33,400)liters of petroleum products that was to be smuggled out. The duty paid value (DPV) for the items at N98.3M),”Olumoh explained.
Comptroller Olumoh added that some of the major challenges facing his command included the illegal routes caused by the wide span of the border covering the two states,insurgency and communal crisis affecting some parts of the command among others.
