2023 guber: APC chieftain warns against divisive tendencies among Abia members

A chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Abia State, Mazi Emma Uche, has advised party leaders and members to abstain from divisive tendencies capable of thwarting the chances of the party, as well as its acceptability by the people in the state.

He emphasized that the sustenance of unity in the state chapter of the party remains the panacea that will guarantee victory in the 2023 general elections.

Uche, who was APC local government chairmanship flagbearer for Arochukwu council area of the state, said Thursday that the unity being witnessed in the party fold must be sustained with all sincerity from leaders and members to lessen the burdens associated with election strategies on the progressive party.

He stated that the APC has the capacity to win all elective seats in the state come 2023 and further urged party leaderships at all levels to convene roundtable meetings towards reviewing the unison, and as well as identify clogs in the wheel of progress of the APC in Abia state.

“I’m optimistic that APC will form the next government in Abia in 2023 if that same unity we are showing in the party now is sustained. In the first place, we have the ability and the capability to wrest away from the PDP controlled government, but if there is no unity, there is no way we can get there. You can see the timber and calibre of people in the party, if we can sustain the existing unity, the party will clinch power.

“We need to call every leader and members, as well as teeming supporters of the party for a roundtable meeting and deliberate on the need for members to deviate from any divisive tendency. We need to call a spade a spade, and field credible candidates, and be united in order to secure winning for the coming 2023 general elections. There is no way we can actualize our quest to occupy the Government house under division,” he said.

“Remember that all structures of the All Progressive Grand Alliance in Abia collapsed into the APC fully, and remember before now, we all know the state of APGA in Abia state . I was the state youth leader of APGA, and the party had structures in every grassroots. I know, in Abia state, the then APGA won the governorship election in 2015 and also 2019, but PDP took it away from us through manipulative manner. But eventually, we still moved on, and virtually now, all APGA structures joined APC.”

In a related development, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia has directed officers at all levels to desist from attending factional or sectional meetings aimed at the zoning of the 2023 governorship or any other position in the state.

In a communique signed by the State Chairman, Hon Alwell Asiforo; the Secretary, David Iro; and the Publicity Secretary, Chief Fabian Nwankwo, after the end of its emergency meeting held in Umuahia, the Abia PDP frowned at the political brickbats by politicians and groups over the 2023 governorship seat of Abia State.

The party further said such tendencies are premature and capable of distracting the party from its resolve to build a solid, all-inclusive party structure capable of winning the 2023 general elections.
