As Anambra guber aspirants toy with consensus arrangement option

Ahead of the 2023 general election, campaign posters indicating the relaunch of the presidential aspiration of former Senate President and erstwhile Governor of Kwara State, Dr Bukola Saraki, have surfaced in some parts of Abuja , the nation’s capital.
Saraki, who is currently the Chairman, of the reconciliation and strategy committee of the PDP, it will be recalled,
came third behind Sokoto state governor, Aminu Tambuwal and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar (the eventual winner) of the 2018 Presidential primary election of the PDP in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The 2018 presidential primaries featured prominent politicians such as former Kano state governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwakwanso, ex- President of the Senate, David Mark, former Sokoto state governor, Atthiru Bafarawa amongst others.
At the federal secretariat and Wadata Plaza, headquarters of PDP, Saraki’s posters were visibly seen.
The campaign posters with the inscription, “Reset Nigeria 2023: Vote Abubakar Bukola Saraki as President.”
were everywhere.
Contacted for his reaction on the issue yesterday, the media aide to Saraki, Alhaji Yusuf Olaniyonu, said he knew nothing about the posters.
Olaniyonu said, “we do not know anything about the posters. We are ignoring it”.
Saraki presently heads the PDP’s Reconciliation and Strategy Committee set up by the National Working Committee of the party to reconcile aggrieved members and woo new members into its fold ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Also yesterday, it emerged that the 16 aspirants seeking the PDP ticket to contest the November 6, 2021 Anambra Governorship election have begun moves to produce a consensus candidate.
Two of the aspirants, Emeka Etiaba and Nzeribe Marcellinus Chukwumaeze, who spoke separately with journalists after they were screened on Tuesday disclosed that aspirants had commenced talks on the issue.
Etiaba said the arrangement could facilitate very friendly and peaceful environment among aspirants.
He added that the PDP needed such unity to do better than it had done in past Governorship elections in Anambra State.
His words, “I believe that some aspirants should step down for the others to allow the party do well in the elections. We are actually talking about it,” Etiaba stressed.
