In commemoration of the 2024 International Anti-Corruption Day, the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has urged Nigerian youths to unite against corruption.
Olukoyede gave the advice at a town hall meeting, organized by EFCC Kano Zonal office in commemoration of International Anti-Corruption Day Celebration.
Represented by the Zonal Director, Kano Zonal office, CE Ibrahim Shazali, the EFCC boss emphasized the need for young people to come together to fight corruption, which he described as a monster that affects every age group, but bites harder against the prospects and possibilities of youths.
Olukoyede noted that corruption limits and vitiates the opportunities of youths for self-actualization, making it impossible for them to have equal opportunities for self-expression.
He also highlighted the vulnerability of youths to fraudulent practices, particularly internet fraud, which he said has a bandwagon effect on young people.
Olukoyede maintained that to achieve unity in the fight against corruptio, youths should form associations, clubs, think tanks, and societies that promote good values.
He also encouraged them to lend their support to anti-corruption agencies like the EFCC and to expose corrupt practices in their neighborhoods.
The Anti-graft agency Chairman added that the commission has established structures such as the Integrity Club for primary and secondary school students and the Zero Tolerance Club for tertiary institution students,stressing that EFCC is building a Cyber Crime Research Centre to build capacities against internet fraud.
In his remarks the Executive Chairman of Kano Public Complaints and Anti-graft Agency Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado appeal to youths to be committed to the fight against Corruption with the aim of having a corrupt free society.
Highlights of the Roundtable Discussion includes sharing of ideas on how to curb the menace of corruption by CSO’s, corps Members and other Stakeholders.
