Former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) may find it difficult to win the 2027 presidential election if Peter Obi is not its candidate.

Fayose made the comment on Sunday while speaking at the PDP national convention in Abuja, where he also assessed the performance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Offering a mixed view, the former governor said the president has made some efforts but is yet to meet expectations.

“I’m happy with what Asiwaju is doing. You don’t have to have 100 percent of any issue before you are said to be doing well, but when you relate our past with our present, he is not doing well,” he said.

Turning to the opposition, Fayose insisted that the ADC’s chances in 2027 are closely tied to Obi’s involvement.

“I told you that if Obi is not on the ballot of ADC, that is the end of ADC,” he said, adding that it appears Atiku Abubakar may eventually secure the party’s ticket.

He also expressed doubts about Obi’s political path ahead of the election, suggesting a return to the Labour Party may not be feasible.

“It’s impossible for him to go back to the Labour Party. Obi is a good guy, he’s a fantastic guy, but to become the president at this time is difficult,” Fayose added.
