By Godwin Agia, Jalingo

The 2023 governorship aspirant, under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Professor Jerome Nyameh has resigned his membership and declared intention to contest the 2027 Taraba governorship election under the Accord Party, citing a need to rescue the state from economic decline and poor governance.

Nyameh who announced the move at a press conference in Jalingo on Tuesday, said the decision followed consultations with elders, youths, women, professionals, and traditional leaders across the state, noted that his resignation from the PDP was dated April 17, 2026.

“This decision was not driven by personal ambition, but by an urgent moral responsibility to save our state from backwardness, economic decline, insecurity, rising debt profile and systemic abuse of power.

“My administration would prioritize security of the citizens. Our first way to security is encouraging inter communal dialogues, and poverty reduction, through creating opportunities for all,” he stated.

Nyameh accused successive administrations of wasting Taraba’s agricultural, mineral, and tourism potential through weak institutions, abandoned projects, and rising debt without corresponding development, pointing out poor road networks, underfunded schools and hospitals, rising unemployment, and insecurity as evidence of state failure.

He also raised concern over what he called the state’s growing debt burden, saying future generations were being saddled with liabilities while citizens saw little improvement in their daily lives.

Nyameh unveiled a 3Rs Solution Framework anchored on Recovery, Resource Utilization, and Renegotiation. The plan, according to him would form the basis of the Taraba Therapy Agenda aimed at stabilizing governance, reviving the economy, and reconnecting government with the people.
